  • 1925
  • Emil Cardinaux
  • 25 x 40 inches ~ (63 x 101 cm)
    $7,500
  • Linen backed

Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself.

The price of this poster includes linen backing.

  • Extremely rare poster by Cardinaux who studied in Munich with Franz von Stuck. In addition to his prolific poster work, he was also a landscape painter. He designed three other posters for the Jungfrau (the earliest in 1910) and at least one illustrated brochure.

Polar Dogs at the Jungfrauojoch - Station 11333 feet a.s.l. The history of sled dogs in the Jungfrau dates back to 1913, when Inuit dogs from Greenland were brought in to help supply the men building the railway. Once the railway was complete, the dogs stayed up the mountain to provide rides for tourists.
