Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself.

Lovely illustration of the October 12, 1838, laying of the foundation stone for the new docks in Southampton. Huge crowds in period finery line the road to Southampton during the Victorian era, when it was known as "The Gateway to the Empire."
All in a "frame" painted as part of the poster.
Born in Scotland, Zinkeisen was known for her society portraits and floral still lives; additionally she created numerous posters London Transport, LNER, and Southern Railways, always focusing on busy scenes with an emphasis on detail.
