  • B&W photograph of John F Kennedy (JFK) in newspaper advertisement from the Baltimore News-Post Nov 11, 1960. Published the day after the 1960 Presidental Election.

Today He is Everybody’s Man MAYBE you disagreed with him yesterday. Or, maybe you didn’t. But now all the harsh words and bitter arguments are forgotten.

The storm has passed. Campaign trains lie empty on their sidings. Banners and buttons and ticker tape have gone wherever such things go. And the voice of radio and television is strangely quiet.

The decision is the healer. Suddenly we Americans are one again—cheering, praying for the man who faces the most important job of our time. Today he is everybody’s man.

This is the great strength of America—this ability to fight like fury for the man of our choice and then support, with even more determination, the man who beats him out. It is a peculiarly American ability, too, the way we close ranks behind whoever is elected.

And, on this unity, we can well ask the blessing of God.
