Man with a Briefcase, Jonathan Borofsky Exhibit Poster The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles

  • 1986
  • Jonathan Borofsky
  • 24 x 78 inches ~ (60 x 198 cm)
    $850
  • Unbacked

This poster is currently unbacked. At check out, you will be given the opportunity to add backing which would cost $450 and take approximately 6-8 weeks.

Linen backing is the industry standard of conservation. Canvas is stretchered and a sheet of acid free barrier paper is laid down. The poster is then pasted to the acid free paper using an acid free paste. This process is fully reversible and gives support to the poster. A border of linen is left around the poster and can be used by a framer to mount the poster so that nothing touches the poster itself. Backing is what we recommend for framing, and for any poster needing restoration.

  • Rare  Jonathan Borofsky Exhibit Poster, Man with a Briefcase, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, 3/17/86–5/18/86 in bright pink/red lettering at the bottom

From the Smithsonian American Art Museum  "Jonathan Borofsky's monumental silhouette of a man carrying a briefcase portrays an urban Everyman. The artist was inspired in 1979 by a newspaper advertisement for men's suits and subsequently made this archetypal office worker a recurring theme in his work."

This number 2907882  represents a unique signature from Jonathan Borofsky's "Counting" series. In 1969, the artist began a daily conceptual practice of writing consecutive numbers on sheets of paper to aid his concentration. From that point forward, he stopped signing his name on artworks and instead "signed" them with the exact number he had reached in his continuous count at the moment the artwork was finished.

Please note stains on right side, these would be addressed with linen backing.
