the beauty of a poster
One of the greatest joys of being a poster dealer is having the opportunity to own, if only briefly, pieces of history and great beauty. With over 7,000 posters in our inventory, obviously we cannot keep them all. Our new online exhibit offers just 8 posters, 7 from our inventory that I will sorely miss when sold. I am sure these will each find a home where they will be enjoyed as much as I now enjoy them. The eighth poster, is one I have never owned and is the one poster I would love to have for myself, "A Man With A Movie Camera" by the Stenberg Brothers. (If you have one and would like to see it in a new home loved by its owner, just let me know.) I hope you will take a moment to enjoy these posters and to think about which poster(s)are special to you.
The posters in this show range from what I think is the most perfect piece of Soviet Constructivist Propaganda "Let's Build a Zeppelin Fleet for Lenin," to an extremely dated poster with Santa peddling holiday wrapped cartons of Chesterfields cigarettes. Of interest in the show are 2 of the posters by spouses Ben Shahn and his wife Bernarda Bryson. Shahn's poster is an ingenious graphic using Barry Goldwaters own words to surround a diaper clad caricature of the Presidential candidate. While an oxymoron, also in this group is what I view as the most beautiful war poster imaginable. These 8 posters really have no specific connections to each other, these are just posters that "call" to me.
I hope you enjoy this show, "The Beauty of a Poster." As always, this show offers only a tiny percentage of our inventory, please be sure and look around the web site. I hope you can find something that fills your need for poster enjoyment. If there is anything specific you are looking for, please feel free to call or email.
